Whether we like it or not, our social media apps, games and e-mail tools are always being tinkered with by the people that wrote them.
With auto updates, apps can change every day without the phone’s owner even knowing.
And then, of course, there are the changes to software that you didn't want in the first place.
Sometimes bugfixes add more bugs, and sometimes new features aren't improvements at all.
Sometimes, automatic updates can lead you to miss interesting and useful new tools that could enhance your Android experience. For many users, app updates are something that they would like to agree on a case by case basis, instead of allowing external companies to constantly add content to their devices. It’s not hard to disable automatic app updates on any Android device.
Just follow a few simple steps and you’ll be in control of your updates in no time.
Aside from that, constantly transferring data and updating the software also keeps the phone running, and keeps your battery running down a lot faster than you were expecting - turning automatic updates off could give you that little extra time you always find yourself needing.
On the next screen, you’ll be able to choose whether you want to allow apps to automatically receive updates over Wi-Fi, whether you want to allow apps to update at any time, or whether you want to manually install all updates.
For the sake of this how-to, we want to turn off auto-updates altogether, so go ahead and tap “Do not auto-update apps.” option picker screen will close, taking you back to the main Google Play Settings screen.
are there any settings or permissions to be added for this in manifest file or this is something available for preloaded apps or apps which has vendor/manufacturer certificate? [EDIT] just for Info As a normal developer we can't implement this feature. INSTALL_PACKAGES is just ignored by Android system unless your app is signed with manufacturer certificate.
What I have to do to get Allow Automatic Updating feature for my application on play store as a normal developer. If your app is certified with manufacturer certificate then your app is treated as part of firmware and it is eligible for silent installation of any packages.
